Only One

Brooklyn-based duo Gilligan Moss close out the year with a yearning mantra on ‘Only One’ via Foreign Family Collective.
This track begins like the earnest and heartfelt reassurance from a loved one reminding you that you are indeed “the only one” before eventually exploding into a triumphant exaltation of the same feeling. This track begins like the earnest and heartfelt reassurance from a loved one reminding you that you are indeed “the only one” before eventually exploding into a triumphant exaltation of the same feeling. The repeated lyrics recall Daft Punk’s ‘Around The World’ or Caribou’s ‘Can’t Do Without You’ but the intent behind the phrase seems to oscillate between a gentle and loving reminder and a triumphant and self-confident inner monologue.
“There is only one love, there is only one horse, and there is only one planet. Some say there are two lives to live, but one only knows when the next one will come. “Only One” is one from the heart, one with the sky, and hopefully it may make you wonder what it all means, by the time it's all done.”
– says Gilligan Moss about the track.
Gilligan Moss is Ben & Evan. Friends since meeting at Park West Preschool in Chicago at age three. Their first musical collaboration was a spectacular performance at a summer camp in the northern woods of Wisconsin which has been widely bootlegged and shared amongst collectors though has yet to see an official release. Since reconnecting in 2015 they’ve written some songs, made some remixes and released their debut self titled album on Foreign Family Collective. They’ve appeared live touring with the likes of ODESZA, Glass Animals, Elderbrook, Tourist and Toro y Moi
The music they make is jubilant and fun—drawing from a shared love of music both old and new spanning a wide swath of genres. Their music sounds best with a chilled glass of wine and close friends, but also sounds excellent while filling out excel spreadsheets, doing laundry and staying out way too late at the club with friends and enemies alike. They are currently working on new music and perfecting recipes for a cookbook.
‘Only One’ arrives on the heels of Gilligan Moss’ ‘Turn Back Time’ which received playlisting on Spotify’s “Metropolis” and “Off-Pop” playlists. They recently completed a BBC Radio 1 Wind Down Mix and have just wrapped up some live shows in upstate New York and the Pacific Northwest. Recently Gilligan Moss wrapped up a tour supporting ODESZA on their ‘The Last Goodbye Tour’ and are hard at work on their next album, due early 2024.
